Gayle Mansfield Irwin possesses more than 20 years of writing, speaking, and public relations experience.  She is the author of Sage’s Big Adventure: Living with Blindness, a true-to-life, inspirational story about the challenges and triumphs of her blind Springer Spaniel.  The book is written for children ages 8 - 12, however, adults (and younger children) also positively respond to the story’s message of disability awareness, respect, determination, and self-confidence.

In June 2008, Mrs. Irwin was given a Western Horizon Award by Wyoming Writers Inc. for Sage's Big Adventure.

Two additional writing projects featuring Sage are now available.  Sage Learns to Share is a picture book for young children, published by Publish America; this work features lovely illustrations by an artist from London, England.  Additionally, Mrs. Irwin has a shortened version of Sage's story in the latest edition of Chicken Soup for the Soul titled What I Learned from the Dog

Mrs. Irwin worked as a journalist in Montana and Wyoming for many years, including serving editor of the West Yellowstone News (MT), contributing writer for the Island Park News, and reporter for the Douglas Budget (WY).  She also served as a conservation and humane educator (she was the first Education Coordinator for the Grizzly Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, Montana and also for the Bozeman, Montana Humane Society).  Her other work experience includes Visitor Information Specialist for the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center where she served as volunteer and public relations coordinator and public relations coordinator for the Casper (WY) Humane Society.

In conjunction with her book and article writing, the author conducts speaking engagements at schools, libraries, and senior centers.  She has served as a classroom guest in schools in Wyoming, Montana, Arizona and California.
