Sage's Big Adventure: Living with Blindness is enjoyed by a wide audience, from children and parents to pet lovers and teachers. Here's what some readers say about the book:
"I use the book in my classroom to teach point of view and as a reward if the students finish their work in class. This is a powerful book! The dog has a disability - blindness - and for children who face certain issues (health, self-confidence), this book has touchpoints. They see despite her disability that the dog has value and importance. Sage is a life-long learner -- she faces her fears and learns from each situation. This teaches the children that just because you have a disability or a life challenge doesn't mean you can't learn, can't meet the challenge, or that you don't have value. My students love the photos; they see the dog is real and therefore, they better connect with the character. Sage may be blind, but she displays confidence, and the children see that." Kari Nordahl, Educator, Rialto Unified School District, CA

I started reading Sage’s Big Adventure: Living with Blindness expecting the book to be simply a child’s book, but I was curious since I’m a dog owner. I was pleasantly surprised by the book’s content, style and tone. I found myself caught up in the character – the author’s descriptive writing style makes one want to continue reading to find out what happens next; her writing style also takes a person into the character itself and the challenging situation of being blind. Anyone who has an elderly or disabled dog will relate to Sage’s story; those who are simply dog owners with little pet medical challenges will also positively respond to the message and depth of Irwin’s story. This is not just a book for children! Tom Barnes, Schipperke owner, LaVerne, CA
